My name is Marcelina Mapatac and I currenty work as Care Assistant in an institution for the elderly here in New Zealand. At work, my guiding principle is the Golden Rule and therefore I always keep in mind that I ought to treat the elderly in a way that I would like to be treated when I become elderly myself.
As to work qualifications, I have acquired training in Aged Care Education and presently undertaking Dementia course.
As to my English communication skills, I had adequate training in my previous school work and this has been enhanced by my coming to study and work in New Zealand.
I consider my ripe age as an additional asset in performing my work. My fruitful life experiences have taught me that humility, patience and understanding are necessary values in dealing with others whether it be at home, at work or anywhere.
As of now, I am happy with my job here in New Zealand but oftentimes guilt and discontentment set in when I come to think of my family that I left behind. I am earnestly looking forward to that day when I will be given the chance to work in a place where my family can join me when the right time comes.
Attend to the personal care and needs of residents in the hospital wing of the institution. Normally, I am assigned to look after five residents during my shift.
